THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Police have arrested the in-laws of a woman in connection with the woman's suicide in Kachani in Aruvikkara. The arrested persons are Anchal Eroor native Manmadan (78) and his wife Vijaya (71). The arrest was made by the police team led by Nedumangad DySP. Anupriya (29) was found dead in her house last Tuesday. She was found hanging in the room on the first floor of the house.
The arrest was made on the complaint of Anupriya's relatives. They had alleged that Anupriya committed suicide due to mental torture by her husband and in-laws. Anupriya's husband Manu, the first accused in the case, is in Gulf. The accused have been charged with dowry harassment, domestic violence and abetment of suicide. Anupriya went to the room after having lunch at 2.30 pm on Tuesday. She was found hanging at around 5 pm.
Anupriya and Manu got married six months ago. After 15 days of marriage, Manu went to Gulf. Despite getting pregnant, she had an abortion. Following this, her husband's parents started mentally harassing her. Although she told about this to Manu, he too started to talk about the same thing. As a result, Anupriya became mentally stressed. Relatives said that Anupriya committed suicide following this.
The police found a 6-page letter about Anupriya's husband and family in Anupriya's room. Aruvikara police have registered a case of unnatural death.
