NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to intervene in a plea seeking a ban on the release of the film 'The Kerala Story'. The apex court directed the petitioners to approach the High Court in the matter. The petition was filed by an organization called Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind. The petition claimed that 'The Kerala Story' is defaming a society and contradicting the facts.

Ahead of the hearing of the petition, the counsel for the producers of 'The Kerala Story' informed the court that a similar petition was pending before the Kerala High Court. Following this, the Supreme Court refused to interfere in the petition. The bench chaired by the Chief Justice stated that the petitioners can approach the Kerala High Court against the film. Three petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court against 'The Kerala Story'.

On Tuesday, the Kerala High Court rejected a plea seeking an urgent stay on the release of the film. It was an office-bearer of Rajiv Gandhi Study Circle NGO who filed the petition.
