MALAPPURAM: In a bizarre incident, the Motor Vehicle Department has fined a car driver for driving without a helmet. Mohammad Salih, a native of Malappuram Tirur, was issued a notice to pay a fine of Rs 500. After realizing the mistake, the officials resolved the incident by telling them not to pay the fine. A message was received on the phone demanding to pay the fine for traveling on a vehicle with registration number KL 55 V 1610.
Mohammad Salih owns an Alto car with this number. He did not travel on that day through Bavapadi, where the said violation have taken place. The notice shows a picture of two young men riding a bike without wearing helmets. The vehicle number was likely wrongly read after it was caught on camera.
Meanwhile, the motor vehicle department had sent a notice to the pickup vehicle last Friday for driving without a helmet. Today, MVD came out with an explanation about the incident. The MVD informed that there was an error while recording the vehicle number and the notice was withdrawn. The mistake was made by the officer of Attingal RTO. Basheer, a native of Thiruvananthapuram's Vattiyoorkavu Kanjirampara, received the notice to pay fine.
