THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Violations detected by AI cameras will not be penalized very soon. Reports said Keltron and the Department of Motor Vehicles will sign an MoU in this regard only after an investigation into the controversies on the camera deal. The final decision of the government regarding the camera deal will also be crucial in this regard. After awareness, the earlier decision was to levy the fine from May 20 onwards.
Meantime, the government is examining the legal aspects of freezing the project to get rid of the corruption allegations in the deal. For this, the information regarding the contract has been given to the legal department. The government also sought legal advice on matters including judicial inquiry.
The Accountant General (AG)'s inquiry into the transaction has reached the second stage. The AG first investigated the contract between Keltron and the Department of Motor Vehicles and the sub-contracts given by Keltron. The actual price of the cameras and the price difference recorded in the contracts are now being examined.
The investigation by the industries department has reached its final stage. The decision of the transport department is that after the findings of these two investigations, a comprehensive agreement can be demanded.
If Keltron's role in the project is investigated, the problems caused by the transport department will be exposed one by one. The transport department has prepared a report containing the instruction not to start the operation of the cameras until a clarity is obtained.
