NEW DELHI: National wrestler Geeta Phogat, who came to show support in the protest against wrestling federation president Brij Bhushan Singh, who is facing sex allegations, was taken into custody by the Delhi Police. Former Commonwealth Games gold medalist and World Championship medalist Geeta Phogat was detained on her way to the protest site at Jantar Mantar. Her husband Pawan Kumara, who was accompanying the wrestler, was also taken into custody by the Delhi Police.

Geeta Phogat tweeted that the police stopped the two in Karnal and told them that they would not allow them to continue their journey. She tweeted that the police action of not allowing to meet the protesting wrestlers is reprehensible. She went on to say that the police told her that the only option for her was to return home or remain in custody. Geeta Phogat is the relative of Vinesh Phogat who is active in the protest.

Meanwhile, yesterday there was a fight between the wrestlers and the police at Delhi's Jantar Mantar Road. The wrestlers alleged that the drunken policemen attacked them. The wrestlers added that the officials pushed and shoved them. 'We are not criminals. Yet the police treated us like criminals. If you want to kill us, kill us. Men grabbed me and pushed me. Where are the policewomen?' asked wrestler Vinesh Phogat. 'Did we win the medals to witness these days?' Vinesh asked emotionally.
