NAGERCOIL: The Tamil Nadu CB CID has arrested a 14-year-old boy in connection with the death of a 12-year-old boy who fell into a pond on his way to Bhuthapandi a year ago. On May 8, 2022, Adil Muhammad, the son of Mohammad Naseem-Sujita couple of Kalluvettankuzhi Hospital Road, Vizhinjam, was found dead in a pond near their relative's house in Erachakulam. Currently, the 14-year-old has been charged with concealment of death information and destruction of evidence. Whether it was a homicide is yet to be confirmed. The investigation team has suspicions that the child was brought to the deserted area to sexually abuse them. As the accused is a juvenile, the investigating team is not ready to reveal more details. After being produced before the magistrate, the child was shifted to Tirunelveli Juvenile Home. Adil reached his relative's house on May 6. On the day of the incident, Adil Muhammad was wearing a t-shirt when he left the house. But there was no t-shirt on the dead body. It was raining heavily on the day of the incident. The 14-year-old was caught after interrogating the children who went with Adil Muhammad in the investigation based on the CCTV footage. After the interrogation, the arrest was made.

Two special teams were formed under the leadership of Kanyakumari District Police Chief Harikiran Prasad to investigate the unnatural death, but no trace was found. After Adil Mohammad's parents complained to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the Chief Minister sent a letter to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. The Tamil Nadu government issued an order to the DGP to intensify the investigation and handed over the investigation to the CB CID. An arrest was made in the case after six months of investigation. The investigation was led by CB CID DySP Shankar.
