KOLLAM: The death of a 12-year-old boy from Nilamel after he fell into a pond at his relative's house in Nagercoil was proved to be a murder. A 14-year-old native of Nagercoil was arrested by the CB CID team in connection with the incident.
Adil Muhammad (12), son of Najeeb-Sujitha couple, was found dead after falling into a pond near Bhoothapandi in Nagercoil at Nilamel Pangoodu Putthanveedu. The incident took place on May 6, 2022. The 14-year-old boy was arrested when the Tamil Nadu CB CID team conducted an investigation after the family came forward alleging mystery in the child's death. On the day of the incident, the police got clues about the murderer by focusing on the CCTV footage of the incident and interrogating the children who were with Adil Muhammad. Adil's friend, 14 years old, confessed to the crime during interrogation.
When he got into the pool, the accused attacked Adil and he fell into the deep part of the pool and drowned. He left Adil in the pool and escaped. The accused was caught a year after the incident. When the local police investigation stalled, the family came to Nagercoil and staged a strike. Later, the investigation was handed over to the CB CID.
Adil had come to his mother's family home in Thittuvila to celebrate Eid.
The accused and Adil were close friends. The investigation was headed by SP Shankar.
