PALAKKAD: Kumki elephants will be brought in if needed to oust the wild tuskers reaching the Malampuzha dam premises. It was rather a surprise seeing the wild tuskers finding a new abode in the tourist location of Malampuzha. As of now, almost 30 elephants are stationed on the dam premise. The group also includes the infamous rogue elephant PT 14. The tourists and vloggers in the area shooted videos of wild elephants roaming inside the area which later concerned the forest officials.
The officials burst crackers to ward off the elephants but strangely the move backfired as the tuskers turned against the workers giving shrills. The officials want the elephants to cross the Kava road nearby Ayyapan Mala to make the dam area safe from the wild presence.
Kumki elephants are part of the plan. At least two Kumki elephants are needed to remove the group from the dam area. The DFO held a meeting and called it exigent to remove the elephants to make the place safe for tourists.
