IDUKKI: Arikomban, who was shifted from Chinnakanal to Periyar Tiger Reserve, is causing trouble in Tamil Nadu's inhabited areas. For the past three days, the arrival of Arikomban in the human-occupied area has created a fearful situation. Arikomban is present in Manalar near Meghamalai in Tamilnadu province. With this, the Tamil Nadu Forest Department has started preparations to avoid a situation similar to Chinnakanal.
There were situations where the radio collar system to monitor the elephant's movements could not give an accurate signal. Meanwhile, Arikomban, who appeared near the Meghamalai Highways Dam last night, tried to destroy the crops. The elephant rushed towards the convoy of the Tamil Nadu forest department officials who had come to drive him away. Meghamalai has been banned for tourists due to the elephant making its presence from time to time. At present, only the vehicles of the local residents and the forest department are being allowed through.
At the same time, monitoring is also being done under the leadership of Kerala Forest Department officials to prevent Arikomban from entering the inhabited area. In view of the Chitrapournami festival, more forest guards have been appointed at Mangala Devi Temple. If the elephant reaches the people's area, firecrackers will be burst and it will be made to return to the forest.
