NEW DELHI: More details of the complaint lodged by the wrestlers against the wrestling federation president and BJP MP Brijbhushan Singh are out. In two separate complaints lodged with the police by two wrestlers on April 21, there are allegations of sexual harassment and inappropriate touching.
According to the complaints, Singh used to touch their breasts and stomachs inappropriately on the pretext of checking their breathing patterns. In one of the complaints, a wrestler claimed she was sexually assaulted five times. The attack took place between the 2016 and 2019 tournaments while they were eating at a restaurant.
Brij Bhushan allegedly tried to abuse her at MP's residence at 21 Ashoka Road, Delhi.
The wrestler alleged Singh touched her thighs and shoulder on the first day, on her next visit two days later, the WFI chief touched her breast and stomach, saying he wanted to check her breathing pattern. In the other complaint, Brij Bhushan lifted the player's jersey and touched her breast and stomach in the pretext of checking her breathing pattern. He allegedly called her to his residence and tried to abuse her.
Meanwhile, even though a case has been registered under POCSO, the Delhi Police is not even ready to question Brij Bhushan. The police said that the entire statement of the complainants will be recorded this week. Sports Minister Anurag Thakur demanded that the players should be patient till the investigation is completed. Wrestling players started a strike at Jantar Mantar on April 23 demanding the arrest of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and his removal from the position of the head of the Wrestling Federation of India. Annie Raja, General Secretary of the National Women's Federation, has written to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha asking for cancellation of Brij Bhushan's Parliament membership.
