THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The director of general education has sought the government's permission to amend the Plus One admission prospectus to avoid the practice of giving bonus points in Plus One admission to students who get grace marks in the 10th class examination. On April 20, the General Education Department had issued an order that no index marks (bonus points) should be given for admission to the next level if grace marks are obtained. Based on this, Plus One sought permission to amend the admission prospectus.
Grace marks are awarded for non-academic achievements including arts and sports fairs. The current practice is to give grace marks along with the marks obtained in the examination and then give bonus points if required for Plus One admission.
Once the government approves the recommendation of the Director of General Education, the amendment will come into effect by eliminating the bonus point in Plus One admission. Permission has also been sought to avoid tie-breakers to consider those without grace marks first if the weighted grade point average (WGPA) considered for Plus One admission is equal for those with and without grace marks,
