TANUR: Thousands of people bid farewell to 22 people who died after a boat capsized at Thooval Theeram Beach, Ottumpuram in Tanur. 15 children, five women and two men died in the accident. Huge crowds had gathered in the houses of each deceased person.
The deceased are Seenath (43), her daughters Hasna (18), Shamna (16), Shafna (13) and Safla Sherin (10 months), Raseena (27), her children Shahra (8), Rushda (7) and Naira (8), Ayisha Beevi (38), her children Adhila Sheri (15), Adnan (10), Harshan (3) Perinthalmanna native Nawas' son Anshid (12), Aflah (7), Tanur native Siddique (41), children Fathima Minha (12), Faisan (3), Hadhi Fathima (7) and Sabarudheen (38).
11 members of Parappanangadi Puthankadappuram native Saidalavi's family lost their lives. The Chief Minister visited Misbahul Uloom Madrasa, ParappanangadiPuthankadappuram, where their bodies were placed for public viewing, and paid last respects.
The post-mortem was conducted at Manjeri Medical College, Tirur District Hospital, Tirurangadi Taluk Hospital, Malappuram Taluk Hospital and Perinthalmanna District Hospital.
The number of passengers on the boat that met with the accident is not clear. About 40 people were given tickets. Five people did not get into the boat. Children were not given tickets. Revenue Minister K. Rajan said that it is estimated that 37 people were on the boat. The search will continue today and tomorrow.
