NEW DELHI: Indian army has decided to give the same uniform to officers ranked from Brigadier to General. The move is brought to bolster unity and strength among cadres irrespective of the regimentation.

The army commander's organization decided on the move after careful deliberation. It is also aimed at wiping away the small egos that prevailed among the high-ranked officials in the army. Meanwhile many view the move as a landmark one from the Modi government to erase the remnants of British-era army codes.

At present, different types of uniforms and accouterments have specific associations to the respective arms, regiments, and services in the Army. The central government views the move to be revolutionary which will bring more camaraderie and esprit de corps within the men in uniforms. A standard uniform, they said, will ensure a common identity for all senior-rank officers, while “reflecting the true ethos of the Indian Army.”

Cap, Rank badge, Gorget patches, belt, and shoes will be changed and made uniform for all. Officials falling below the rank of Colonel will have no changes in uniform.
