KOTTAYAM: The dream of K G Mohandas and Vasantha Kumari to make their only daughter a doctor, was shattered before a mentally deranged person. Abkari contractor Mohandas of Muttuchira Kaduthuruthy and Vasantha Kumari gave her a heavenly life. She was everything to Mohandas, who married late.

She studied till plus two in De Paul Higher Secondary public School in Kuravilangad which is one of the best schools of the area. After becoming a doctor and when she joined for house surgency, her father had stuck her name plate ‘Dr Vandana Das MBBS’ on the gate. Not only in studies, she was also in the forefront of Sahodaya Kalotsavams and was much loved by her classmates and relatives.

After passing Plus Two with good marks, she joined for coaching classes at Pala Brilliance Academy. While many of her classmates tried one more time and tried to get admission on merit, her father admitted her in Azeezia Medical College for his desire to see his daughter as a doctor as early as possible.

‘Vandana wanted to become a doctor since childhood. She used to talk only about work. I can't believe her death,’ said Dr Jishnu Shaji, a house surgeon at Kalamasery Medical College, who studied with her till Plus Two.

Mohandas, a former councillor of the SNDP Yogam Kaduthuruthi Union and vice-president of Karuppunthara branch number 2283, has a liquor shop at Brahmamangalam in Vaikom range. She died while her father had decided to send her for PG as soon as she completes her house surgency. She last came to attend the Garudan Thookkam as part of the festival at Peruva Kunnapallikavu temple in March. She died while she was to attend the reception arranged for her by the branch’s annual general meeting on May 28.
