THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted thunder and lightning in the state for the next five days. Cyclone 'Mocha' has formed in the Bay of Bengal and due to its effect, heavy rainfall is likely in Kerala.

Officials informed that the storm moving in the north-west direction is likely to turn into a severe cyclonic storm by midnight tonight. Mocha, which will start moving north-northeast by tomorrow morning, is likely to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm in the central Bay of Bengal by evening.

Currently no rain warning has been issued in any district. According to the Met Department, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 km per hour. There is no restriction on fishing in Kerala - Karnataka - Lakshadweep coasts.
