KOLLAM: I shouted 'Vandana...' She didn't hear. If only she had come after hearing the call..." Dr. SV Pournami, the casualty medical officer at Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital, was sobbing. Pournami, who was with Dr. Vandana Das at the time of the incident, describes those moments.

As usual, many people, including those injured in accidents, came for treatment that night. Vandana and Shibin Mohammed were in the house surgeon's room. After 4:40 Vandana came into the room and informed me that a person had come in with a wound on his leg. She said that he was sent to the dressing room after examining the wound with Shibin.

We walked towards there together. Rajesh, the ambulance driver of the hospital, came running screaming that someone was stabbing everyone there and that they should hurry into the room. I retreated. I shouted 'Vandana...' to join us. She may not have heard.

I ran into the room. The nurses and Rajesh went to the nursing room. At first, I couldn't put the door latch because I was scared, but somehow I got it. After a while, someone knocked on the door. Thinking it might be him, I pushed the room table towards the door. Kottarakkara police was informed after that. Then there was a scream and a moan. When I mustered up the courage and came running, I saw blood and an overcoat on the floor. I didn't understand what happened. When I ran to the dressing room, I was told that Vandana had been stabbed and that she was taken to the hospital. I prayed for her but still, the next news I heard about her was that she passed.." Dr. Shibin is still in shock

Dr. Shibin Muhammad, a classmate who tried to save Dr. Vandana Das from Sandeep, is terrified to think about those moments. After seeing him in the OP, he was sent to the dressing room. Vandana and I went along. When I went back to the OP after telling them to take an x-ray, a policeman was there with a head wound... When I went to see what it was, I heard a woman scream from inside. When I ran to reach there, I saw Vandana getting stabbed on the floor. I grabbed his leg and pulled him. I can't think about those moments..." said Shibin. It was Shibin who took Vandana to a private hospital in Kottarakkara and then to Thiruvananthapuram.
