There are many factors that influence election success or failure. It depends on many factors starting from selection of candidates and campaigning. The results of the Karnataka assembly elections were out last Saturday. The Congress attained a thumping victory.
The Congress wrested back power from the BJP with a clear majority by winning more than 130 seats in the 224-member assembly. Behind this victory were the promises of free electricity, rice, free travel for women and the announcement of restoration of Muslim reservation. Meanwhile, 41-year-old Sunil Kanugolu's name is being heard everywhere.
Who is Sunil Kanugolu?
Sunil Kanugolu, a Telugu, was the right-hand man of poll strategist Prashant Kishor. He is also a member of the task force formed by Sonia Gandhi for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Kanugolu gives guidance to leaders including Rahul Gandhi on election issues.
Started with Amit Shah
Kanugolu started with Amit Shah. Poll strategist since 2012. Helped M K Stalin in Tamil Nadu. When Prashant Kishor tried to leave the BJP and join the Congress, Kanugolu was also with him. Though Prashant Kishor did not join the Congress, Kanugolu joined the Congress. Kanugolu is behind the congress’ thumping victory in Karnataka.
A team led by Kanugolu was formed and survey started for the Karnataka polls. Worked tirelessly in constituencies where victory was not guaranteed. Kanugolu was behind the Bharat Jodo Yatra, a comeback force for Rahul Gandhi and the Congress. During the yatra, a campaign called Pay CM was conducted with a scan board in Karnataka. Through this campaign it was possible to discuss corruption allegations against the government.
To Kerala
After the victory in Karnataka, there is a demand to send Sunil to Kerala. Congress leaders are hopeful that he will reach Kerala soon.
