SHORANUR: Yet another incident of attack has taken place inside a train in Kerala. A passenger was stabbed with a beer bottle for questioning a youth's misbehaviour towards women and others in the Maru Sagar Express. Malappuram Parappanangadinative Devadas (46) was stabbed below the eye. Following the incident, the co-passengers subdued Guruvayur Thaikkad native Siyas (33). The accused, who was then arrested by the railway police, was produced before the Ottapalam court and remanded.
Devadas, who was first taken to the Shoranur Government Hospital, was later taken to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. His injury is not serious.
The incident took place at around 10.50 pm on Sunday when the Maru Sagar Express reached Shoranur. Siyas, who boarded the train from Aluva, got involved in a heated argument with the passengers and misbehaved with the women. Devadas questioned this. In the meantime, the train reached platform number 7 of the Shoranur station. Soon, Siyas got down, took a beer bottle from the track, got back on the train and stabbed Devadas. The accused was subdued by his fellow passengers and handed over to the police.
Railway police have registered a case. SI Anil Mathew said that Siyas is an accused in various cases, including attempted murder.
