NEW DELHI: While uncertainty remains over who will lead the next Congress government in Karnataka, the report of the AICC observers will be critical. Currently, 85 MLAs have extended their support to former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. While 45 MLAs told AICC observers that DK Shivakumar should be made Chief Minister, six MLAs are of the opinion that the High Command can take the final decision on the matter.
It is believed that the report will give more clarity on who will get the post of Chief Minister. Earlier, Siddaramaiah had responded to the media that he would get the post of the chief minister. However, the Congress leadership will not be able to completely disappoint DK Shivakumar, who played a crucial role in the party's massive victory.
The reports of DK Shivakumar cancelling his trip to Delhi when the crucial High Command meeting to decide who will be the Chief Minister of Karnataka was about to take place had spread concern in the Congress camp. Although DK Shivakumar said that he was cancelling the trip due to health issues, political circles are assessing that Shivakumar took the decision as he was unhappy with not getting first priority for the post of Chief Minister. DK has said that he will not lead a rebel movement. The high command meeting in Delhi is very crucial in deciding matters such as the position Shivakumar will be given in the cabinet if not the chief minister's post.
