PATHANAMTHITTA: A new born baby was found abandoned in a tapioca field in Kaviyoor Anjilithanam. The baby was found by the locals hearing the cries of it at 5.30 am Thursday morning.

On being informed, the police reached the spot and shifted the baby to the General Hospital. Who abandoned the baby born just hours ago is not known. The hospital authorities informed that the baby weighing 2.5 kilo, is fine. The authorities of Thiruvalla Hospital said there is no need to shift the baby to another hospital. Doctors also confirmed that the baby was breastfed soon after birth.

The police suspect that the baby was abandoned in order to hide delivery. The police have started an investigation. The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has taken the custody of the baby. The CWC has appointed an ayah and a nurse from Thanal to take care of the baby.
