KOCHI: Police have arrested four persons, including a couple, for possessing MDMA. The arrested are Kothamangalam native Riju Ibrahim Rayyan, his wife Shanimol, Thiruvananthapuram Keezharoor native Aneesh and Thrissur Elanad native Albert M John. The Kadavanthra police seized 18.79 grams of MDMA from the accused. The accused used to sell drugs concentrating in hotels.
The accused were nabbed in an investigation conducted on the basis of confidential information received by the Anti-Terror Squad. Riju is an accused in a drug-related case at Thrikkakkara police station.
Riju used to conduct drug dealings in various hotels after bringing the drugs from Mangalapuram to Kochi. Aneesh and Albert came to Kochi to buy MDMA for retail sale. Aneesh is Riju's friend. Riju said that his wife has no connections with the drug dealings and that he brought her with him to Kochi to buy books and study materials for their son. Shani told police that although she knew that her husband used to consume drugs, she did not know about the drug dealings. However, the police are saying that Shani too was connected with the sale of drugs.
The accused were arrested by a team consisting of SI JS Sreeju, Senior Civil Police Officer Anoop Ravi, Civil Police Officers Shiyas, Basil John, Neetu S Kumar, ASI Saneesh of Kadavanthra station and Civil Police Officer Sudheesh under the leadership of SHO Manuraj. The accused were later produced in court and remanded.
