IMPHAL: Incidents of violence were reported again in Manipur, which was otherwise calm after the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. 15 people were injured in the firing at various places on Saturday. Two people are in critical condition. There is a report that the Kuki section has fired. During the visit, Amit Shah had suggested not to violate the basic law of suspension of operations signed by the central government and various organizations. The shooting happened soon after. Curfew was relaxed in five areas last day as violence eased. Officials informed that there was firing by Kuki terrorists in Kangchup area of Imphal West district. The injured were admitted to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences.
A group of Kuki sectarians reached Kangchup area in the afternoon and tried to burn the houses. Local residents said that they were firing at those who came to stop it. Sekmai MLA Heikham Dingo responded that the Kuki sect was attacking the common people. Out of the 2,000 weapons stolen during the riots, 140 were returned the other day as per instructions given by Amit Shah on Thursday, the last day of the visit.
