Aadhaar is considered as the basic identification document of Indian citizens. Aadhaar cards are being carried by many people as opposed to age-required identification documents such as Voter ID and PAN card. As it is an identification document for various purposes, it is better to keep the information in the Aadhaar card correct without errors.
A fee is usually charged for updating the information in the Aadhaar card. But now there is an opportunity to use this service for free.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has informed that for those who have taken Aadhaar card 10 years back should update the information. Apart from this, the service can also be used free of charge for correction of date of birth, mistakes in name information, address etc. Aadhaar card can be updated till June 14 without fee. After that a fee of Rs.50 will have to be paid.
Those who update their Aadhaar information through the online system will get the service free of charge till June 14. Those who approach the service centers during this period will have to pay the fee.
