THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Though the monsoon was expected to arrive in Kerala on Sunday, there will be a slight delay as per the Indian Meteorological Department. The new prediction is that it will arrive before June 8.
Even though the monsoon has reached close to the Kerala coast, the winds are not strong enough to take it the to the land.
The arrival and strength of the monsoon will depend on the strength and path of the low pressure that will form tomorrow in the Arabian Sea. It is hoped that the situation will be favourable before June 8.
For the monsoon to arrive, the west wind must gain strength. There should be persistent cloud cover from Maldives, Lakshadweep to Kerala coast. The Meteorological Department said that none of this has occurred at present.
Average rainfall
The met department estimates that this time there will be average rainfall. If the situation changes and low pressures form, the level will increase. In that case there is a possibility of cloudburst and lightning flood. Last year the rainfall was average but there were cloudbursts.
