KANNUR: Forest department officials shot and killed a herd of wild boars that fell into the well. The incident took place in Kudakkalam, Eranholi, Kannur. Wild boar attacks have been rampant in the area recently. Meanwhile, six wild boars were found trapped inside the well. As informed by the local residents, the forest department officials reached the spot and started an attempt to get the pigs out, but due to the protests of the locals, they had to shoot all six pigs.

Forest department officials and members of the local self-government body reached the spot. Officials abandoned the plan to save the wild boars after local residents protested as the issue was affecting the agriculture sector and people's lives. Farmers allege that even though wild boars cause damage to crops and pose a threat to human life, the order to shoot and kill them is not being used effectively. It has been one year since the Local Self-Government Department authorized the establishments to shoot and kill wild boars that are destroying the crops. However, the locals complain that most of the local bodies are not taking any action in this regard.

Meanwhile, last month, a wild boar fell into the well after fatally attacking and injuring a man who was standing outside his house. Appukuttan (75), a native of Kilimanoor Varthoor, was injured. Appukuttan, who was standing near the well outside the house, was attacked by a wild boar. Following this, the wild boar broke the handrail and fell into the well.
