THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thunderstorm or light rain at isolated places and winds of up to 40 kmph are likely to lash Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur in the next three hours. The central meteorological department has informed that light rain is also possible at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad, Wayanad and Kasaragod.
Meantime, the meteorological department has hinted that the state will receive isolated heavy rains till Wednesday. There will be more rains in south and central districts. Severe thunderstorms are also possible.
Cyclone Biparjoy has become a severe cyclonic storm over the central-eastern Arabian Sea and will move in a northerly direction till June 14. It is likely to change direction and make landfall between the Pakistan coast and the Mandavi coast on June 15 at a speed of 150 km.
However, the low pressure over North East Bay of Bengal has weakened. Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Kannur will receive rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours. There is a possibility of strong wind of 40 to 45 km per hour and on some occasions up to 55 km per hour is possible in Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts till June 15. Fishing has been banned.
