HYDERABAD: ‘Pregnant women can choose to read Suderkand and Ramayana to help bring physical wellness to the newborn.’ The controversial statement came from none other than Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundararajan. Soundararajan, who is not only the governor, but also a gynecologist and fetal therapist, made these remarks during the launch of the 'Garbha Sanskar' program organized by an RSS-linked body.
“ In villages, it is normal for pregnant ladies to read Sunderkand and Kamba Ramayana. The ritual is followed with vigor in Tamil Nadu. It effectively brings in mental well-being and physical betterment for the newborn kids, or it is largely believed." Soundararajan stated.
Sunderkand is a chapter in the Hindu epic, Ramayana, that illustrates the adventures of Lord Hanuman and his selflessness, strength, and devotion to Lord Rama.
Governor Soundararajan also asked pregnant women to practice yoga to ensure normal delivery than taking up the risk of cesarean.
