THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the wake of the death of an 11-year-old boy in the attack of a stray dog in Kannur Muzhappilangad, Minister MB Rajesh informed that all precautions and vigilance will be taken by the government to prevent the recurrence of such incidents. The minister said in a Facebook post that the state government will approach the Supreme Court again seeking permission to kill stray dogs, which are dangerous to human life.
A meeting of top officials of various government departments will be held soon and necessary steps will be taken to control the stray dog problem. There was considerable local opposition to the establishment of stray dog shelters and Animal Birth Control centers in many places. The minister said that some local bodies have shown indifference to these activities when the stray dog problem reduced significantly as a result of the intensive efforts that started last September.
