THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After a small respite, the stray dog menace has returned back to the city. The city's hearts such as Pettah, Barton Hill, and Palayam saw a big jump in the number of dog attacks. In Ambalamukku region, the dogs are wreaking havoc at night. The improper waste management and the piles of stale food deposited on road premises are behind the sudden growth in dogs in streets.

The people are putting the corporation in the dock for not properly executing the touted dog sterilization program. Apart from the city regions, dogs are also distress to school-going students. Recently near Vanchiyoor, a dog ran along with a scooter passenger but was saved from danger after he drove past without much attention to the charging one. A university college student, on her way back to hostel after having food was charged by a pack of dogs but she ran inside the gate reaching unharmed by a whisker.

According to reports, the corporation has sterilized just 40% of stray dogs in the city. There are approximately 8679 stray dogs in Thiruvananthapuram. The corporation workers also gave hints about many families abandoning dogs in the dead of the night into the streets.
