GANDHINAGAR: Three deaths have been reported in the state as the warning continues that Biparjoy, which has turned into a super cyclone, will reach the coast of Gujarat tomorrow. Two siblings died after a wall collapsed in Bhuj, Gujarat. A woman riding pillion with her husband died after a tree fell on her in Rajkot.
People are being evacuated from Kutch and Dwarka in Gujarat due to strong winds and rain. The government continues to evacuate 12,000 people from coastal areas. A meeting was held under the leadership of Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya to assess the situation.
The central meteorological department has issued a yellow alert for the coastal areas of Saurashtra and Kutch in Gujarat. Public places in Gujarat including beaches, museums and temples have been closed from today till June 15. Police have been deployed to prevent people from gathering on the beaches.
Pregnant women have been shifted to hospitals. Six security boats have been arranged in Jamnagar. The government has set up 15 shelters in Jamnagar to accommodate people. Officials also informed that 50 people, including foreigners, who were working on the rig that was working near the Dwarka coast, were evacuated.
