NEW DELHI: Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh held talks with the chiefs of the three divisions of armed forces as part of the preparations to deal with the threat of Cyclone Biporjoy. Rajnath Singh advised to be prepared to face any emergency. Meanwhile, the National Meteorological Center has declared a red alert for the Saurashtra coast and Kutch following the cyclone. People are still being evacuated from coastal areas.

All the coastal areas are under the surveillance of the army and disaster management teams due to the possibility of danger. A meeting was held under the leadership of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to assess the preparations.

Gujarat and coastal areas of Maharashtra are currently experiencing heavy rains. In Porbandar, heavy damage was reported due to falling trees and strong waves. 50 trains have been canceled today and tomorrow due to bad weather.

A high wave alert has also been issued for the Kerala coast. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center has warned that the Kerala coast (from Vizhinjam to Kasaragod) is likely to see waves of the height of 3.0 to 3.3 meters, with a speed varying between 68 cm and 90 cm per second till 11:30 pm today (June 14).

As rough seas are likely to intensify, people should stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities. Keep fishing vessels (rowboats, boats, etc.) safely moored in the harbor. Keeping a safe distance between boats can avoid the risk of collision. The safety of fishing equipment should be ensured. Avoid trips to the beach and activities at sea altogether.
