THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It is proposed to convene the assembly session for 7 to 10 days in August. Proceedings will be completed before Onam and will be arranged from the 7th to 20th or 24th. Onam break is from the 25th.
Legislation is the main agenda. Necessary financial matters will also be considered. A replacement bill for the Prevention of Violence against Health Workers Amendment Ordinance will mainly be considered. The Lawyers' Welfare Fund Amendment Bill and the Domestic Workers' Welfare Bill are also likely to come up.
The last assembly session ended early in a very turbulent atmosphere. The session was convened to pass the full budget but the opposition protested the denial of the right to an emergency resolution. As the meeting did not proceed smoothly, all the remaining proceedings were passed at once and the meeting broke up before the appointed time.
The approach taken by the ruling party and the speaker on the issue of emergency resolution will be crucial even when the meeting is held again. Speaker AN Shamsir expressed his displeasure when the ruling party took the position that all the urgent motion notices of the opposition cannot be considered.
