KOCHI: CPM has taken action against CITU leader Anil Kumar in the Mini Cooper controversy. It has been decided to cancel Anil Kumar's party membership. CPM Ernakulam district committee also decided to remove Anil Kumar from the post of CITU office-bearer following the controversy over the labour union leader purchasing a luxury car. The district committee, which met today, also decided to remove CPM MLA PV Sreenijin from the post of district sports council president.

Anil Kumar has already owned vehicles like Toyota Fortuner and Innova. Recently, Anil Kumar courted a controversy after he bought a Mini Cooper car worth Rs 52 lakh in the name of his wife. The issue was discussed in the party centres after the pictures of the car circulated on social media.

The condition that one should lead a simple life is applicable to CITU leaders as well. The district committee also assessed that the purchase of a luxury vehicle and the justification for buying it brought disgrace to the party. Anil Kumar is the state secretary of the Petroleum and Gas Workers Union.
