THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The production of Jawan, which is a much-demanded liquor in the state, will be increased from next week. The process to scale up the production of Jawan rum has been completed at the Tiruvalla Travancore Sugars and Chemicals Factory.

The number of production lines has been increased from four to six. Through this, instead of 8,000 cases per day, 12,000 cases can be produced.

Travancore Sugar and Chemicals Department's move is to increase the daily production of Jawan to 15,000 cases. For this, the company has sought permission from the government to increase the storage capacity of extra neutral alcohol used for the manufacture of liquor from 20 lakh liters to 35 lakh liters. As soon as this becomes available, the production capacity of the liquor will be increased further.

Along with this, manufacturers are also trying to launch half-liter and premium bottles of Jawan. A liter of Jawan rum currently on sale is priced at Rs 640. BEVCO hopes that increasing the production of Jawan will break the monopoly of other liquor companies. Along with increasing the production of Jawan, they also tried to launch Malabar brandy from Malabar distillery but failed.
