THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A Police officer who barged into a house in civil dress was beaten to a pulp by CPM-affiliated trade union workers. The incident went viral after a video of the same surfaced on social media pages. Following up, CPM Vanross junction branch secretary Selvaraj, his brother Sundaran, and Akhil were arrested by police for physically attacking Telecommunication CPO Biju G R Nair.
The incident happened at 9 am morning yesterday when Biju trespassed into Selvaraj’s home near Bakery junction. His family shocked by the intrusion alarmed the people nearby. Selvaraj and other trade union workers took Biju out of his home and took him to the streets to start the physical assault. Biju tried defending but was too vulnerable to fight the three to four trade union workers circling him. Biju suffered serious injuries on his head while some in the midst injured the police officer with sticks. The trade union workers said Bju was in a drunken state during the fight. It was only after Museum police reached the place that the identity of Biju was confirmed.
Meanwhile, a case has also been registered against Biju for allegedly trespassing on a stranger's house. Biju is currently facing an internal investigation by the police department for his poor attendance at work. He was transferred from Kozhikode to Thiruvananthapuram as part of a punishment for his laconic work. Meanwhile, police defended Biju saying the latter was not drunk but had several health ailments which often disturbed him.
