THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The open book examination system will be implemented in four-year undergraduate courses where textbooks will be allowed in the examination hall for reference. It is an exam style that encourages students to think and find answers during the exam. It will be applied to few courses initially.
You will have to analyze what you have learned and write the answer. Such will be the questions. This changes the system of memorizing the lessons. Analytical skills can also be assessed in tests.
The Higher Education Council has recommended in the curriculum framework that open book examinations may be conducted in certain subjects. It is up to the Board of Studies of the universities to decide which courses are eligible.
The examination reform committee chaired by MG University VC Dr CT Aravindakumar had recommended to start open book examination.
Technological and MG varsities have open book exam in some subjects for internal marks. This will be first implemented in exams that test practical knowledge. The departmental examinations of government employees are conducted in open book mode.

No point in copying from the book
There will be no type of questions that can be written exactly as in the book. The questions will be analytical and problem solving in nature.
It is important to understand the question correctly. The answer must be found using intelligence and analytical skills. Only those who study well can find this. The book is for reference only.
Delhi, Pondicherry, Jamiamilya, Banaras, Gohati, Anna Universities and National Law School conduct open book exams. Most universities in the world have open book exams. Technological University has started discussions with managements for open book examination in engineering colleges in Kerala.
