WAYANAD: Coracle, locally known as Kuttavanchi, overturned at Karapuzha dam. Girish of Nellarachal Naduveetil Colony drowned in the accident near Wayanad Njamalamkunnu viewpoint. Four people were in the boat at the time of the accident and three others managed to escape by swimming.

The accident occurred at around 1:30 pm while transporting grass for cows on the Coracle. Local residents tried to rescue Girish but could not save him alive. It is not clear what caused the boat to sink. Residents of the colony near the Karapuzha Dam are used to relying on Kuttavanchi for transportation.

Meanwhile, last week, two children drowned in the Achankovil River in Pathanamthitta. Abhiraj and Rishi Ajith, natives of Vettur, were the victims of the accident. Another child who was caught in the current was rescued. The group of seven children went to take a bath after playing football. Locals who came to know about the accident did a search but could not find the two children. The scuba team members who reached the spot managed to rescue them. They were rushed to the hospital but could not be saved.
