KOTTAYAM: The family lodged a complaint against the hospital in the incident of an eight-month-old baby dying of a heart attack while undergoing treatment for fever. The complaint was filed with the health minister against the children's hospital, which is part of the Kottayam Medical College, on the the death of Josh Aby, son of Aby of Kottayam Manarcaud and Jonsy. The family alleged that the baby's health was not properly monitored after giving a high dose of medicine, which led to the heart attack.

The child was admitted to the hospital on May 11 due to fever. The treatment was based on the conclusion that the baby may have Post-Covid Misc Kawasaki disease. After being admitted to the ICU, the child was given an intensive injection of infliximab at 9 pm on May 29. The family said that despite knowing that there is a possibility of a heart attack if this drug is injected, no monitoring system was installed in the child's body.

The family said that the PG doctors and nurses on duty came to know that the baby's health condition was bad only when the relatives in the room raised a ruckus after seeing the baby breathing abnormally.

In the complaint to the health minister, the family also alleged that the nurses did not give the medicines to the babies admitted in the ICU and that the medicines were given by the bystanders. However, the response of the hospital superintendent is that the child had a serious heart disease and there was no medical error on the part of the hospital. The superintendent also informed that if there is an official complaint, he will give a detailed reply.
