THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Karode-Talapady six-lane highway will turn into a reality next year. The asphalt connects the southern tip of Kerala with its northern one, near Manguluru. Cars entering this road can rev to a speed up to 110km without pondering over any penalty from MVD. As of now, the Kazhakootam-Karode highway is open to the public where drivers can maintain a speed up to 90km per hour. With the completion of Karode-Talapady(NH 66), the southern tip adjacent to Tamil Nadu will connect with Kerala’s northern spot bordering Karnataka. The whole distance will be 631.8 km and if maintained at a 100 km speed, the travel can be achieved in just six hours.

According to the draft rule of the motor vehicle department, vehicles can speed up to 110 km on express highways. Since Kerala is yet to witness its first express highway, the transport minister in a meeting has decided to allow vehicles to surpass the normal limits of 90km per hour on six-lane highways of Kerala. Transport buses and heavy travelers should maintain a 95 km per hour speed while moving through the highways.
