sfi-fraud

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kayankulam MSM College headlined the news this week; thanks to SFI leader Nikhil Thomas. He doctored a certificate and tricked the college management into obtaining a seat for M.Com without actually passing B.com. The recurring incidents of forging certificates circling SFI leaders have reached a nadir. Such incidents simply parade the stupefying incompetence of the government and the disarray that is the state's higher education system. Vice Chancellor. Prof.(Dr.) Mohanan Kunnummal broke all those bulwarks SFI made for protecting Nikhil Thomas by terming the certificates submitted as fake. Even Raipur-based Kalinga University cleared the air saying no such student named Nikhil Thomas studied at the university. It was only after these shameful bouts that SFI decided to suspend Nikhil Thomas.

These incidents tainted the higher education system in Kerala. It has stooped to a level such that students with political high-handedness can easily get any seat they wish for. According to emerging reports, a very famous syndicate member and CPM leader from Alappuzha prevailed upon the management to ensure a seat for SFI leader Nikhil in MSM College.

MSM college trust joint secretary admitted lapse from the college manager in allowing Nikhil Thomas into M.Com without doing any proper check. “ It falls under the onus of the principal and manager to follow due process before allowing admission to any student. If there happened any influence from bigger political names, the principal should reveal it” said Secretary Sheik P Harris.

The Kalinga University registrar has warned about moving ahead with legal procedures against Nikhil. This means Chhattisgarh police will soon land up in Kerala to enquire about the scam. The Kerala varsity has decided to charge a case against the principal and management who curry favored the SFI leader for this seat. The varsity will also cancel the M.Com registration of Nikhil soon after getting an official declaration from the Kalinga registrar. Nikhil is currently suspended from college.
