THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala University Vice-Chancellor. Prof.(Dr.) Mohanan Kunnummal asked for an explanation from Alappuzha MSM College after the fake certificate case tainted the repute of the higher education sector in Kerala. The VC admitted to lapse and said the college management committed a grave crime in allowing the SFI leader to study albeit having an idea about his academic qualifications. In the press meeting, Mohanan Kunnummal lambasted the college management asking how did the college officials miss such vital details of the inspection. He later said a detailed search is warranted to know about the shrouded mystery behind Nikhil Thomas getting admission for M.Com even after failing B.Com from the same college.

Nikhil earlier submitted a forged certificate from Kalinga University saying he passed the banking and finance course from the Raipur-based institution. However, the lies got busted as Kalinga University just offers BCom Honours courses where exams are conducted on a semester basis.

"How can a student attend classes in two universities simultaneously? There is a big fraud running behind the screens. If Kalinga fails to acknowledge Nikhil’s claims, Kerala University will move ahead with a criminal case.” Kerala University VC warned.

Nikhil joined for M.Com in the management seat. The degree certificate of Kalinga University was presented for this purpose. Nikhil studied for B.Com in 2017-20. He was the university union councilor in 2019. Later became the joint secretary of the university union. KSU leaders said that Nikhil's claim that he had studied at Kalinga University since 2019 is mysterious.
