THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As the government has received the final panel of UPSC for appointment of new DGP, a decision may be taken in today's cabinet meeting. If not considered today, the decision will be made in next week's meeting.
Jail Chief K Padmakumar, Fire Force Chief Sheikh Darvesh Sahib and Central Intelligence Bureau Assistant Director Harinath Mishra are on the panel. One of them can be appointed by the government. Padmakumar, who is ahead in seniority, is the favourite for the top post. Sheikh Darvesh Sahib who won the Chief Minister's trust without controversy whenever he was given important duties may also be considered.
IB Additional Director Harinath Mishra may not be considered as he has not worked in Kerala recently. Current DGP Anil Kant will retire on June 30.
