BENGALURU: A Malayali was arrested for vandalizing St. Pius Church in Kammanahalli in Bengaluru. The arrested has been identified as Tom Mathew (29), a resident of Banasawadi.

He entered the church by breaking the front door with a hammer at 4.30 am yesterday. Later, the altar and the equipment inside were destroyed. Those who heard the noise and came here informed the police. The police informed that the young man was under the influence of alcohol and when questioned, he spoke contradictingly. During the police investigation, it was found that he was mentally broken due to family problems.

The police also stated that Mathew's father left the family four years ago and it affected him mentally. Police sources also said that he had been showing signs of mental illness for the past two years.

Matthew's mother used to attend the church he attacked regularly. Recently, whenever Mother went to church, Matthew used to say that he was God. Although his family is from Kerala, they have been living in Bengaluru for the past 30 years.
