It is the common people who have to bear the brunt when the government shows complacency in addressing issues that need to be resolved in a timely manner. People have to clamor to repair broken pipes, repair dilapidated roads, turn on street lights, and get the service of doctors in hospitals because the government departments are neglecting their duties. The negligence of the local bodies is a primary reason for the spread of infectious fever in the entire state. Reports of increasing deaths from various types of fever are coming in daily. How can it be regarded as governance if those responsible wake up only when people die en masse? The cleaning that was supposed to be completed before the onset of rains was canceled this time, probably because of the understanding that there will be no monsoons this time. In any case, millions of people have already been affected by the flu. Many people who contracted rabies and dengue have already passed away.
It is estimated that around 1,200 people are attacked by stray dogs in the state every day. Even a minor scratch from a dog, whether it has rabies or not, requires vaccination against rabies. There are tragic stories of people dying of the virus without getting vaccinated. It is unfortunate that the authorities do not have any effective plan to control stray dogs. It will be shocking to know that there is a lobby behind this that is making huge profits through the sale of the vaccine. This month alone, more than a quarter of a million people were bitten by stray dogs and had to seek treatment. Eight people lost their lives due to rabies within six months. The Kannur District Panchayat has approached the Supreme Court seeking permission to euthanize aggressive stray dogs. The fact that the court is ready to consider the petition has given rise to hope. If the authorities fulfill their assigned duties without neglect, many problems affecting people's lives will be easily solved. When there is failure in this regard, people's lives become chaotic.
You can see that public roads have been dug up in many parts of the state as part of development activities. Roads are dug for many purposes. The major problem faced by the people is that the works related to this are never completed on time. Pipes are being laid on roads at many places in the capital city, restricting the freedom of movement of people. Even under the nose of the administrative centre, the officials are not taking any action to complete the work on time. The media had published the news that giant pipes had been laid on the road so that more than 100 families in an intersection in Anayara could not get out of their vehicles. The work is stopped because the digging machine is broken. The residents of the area have been experiencing this misery for two and a half months. None of the responsible people are taking steps to speed up the work. Some major roads in the city have also been blocked and traffic has been blocked. Had all this been done during midsummer, at least the children would not have had to face this misery. Urban planners are embarking on such works without a plan or project. They have no interest in getting things done in an orderly manner. It should also be noted that there is no one with the will power to make them do it.
