KOCHI: Gold traffickers are mastering new strategies to pass the hurdle laid by customs at Kerala airports. Last day, the customs at Kochi international airport got shrills after finding gold inside cheese tins specially meant for children.
The courier package came through Abudhabi-based fast-track couriers. The package was headed to a man named Jabil Uthe, the name mentioned in the courier.
Baby cream, baby soaps, and milk items were choked inside the courier package. While screening the baggage, the customs turned dubious and decided to open it all. All went safe until the officers opened the cheese tin box; the least expected place to house the yellow metal. Six gold coins of 10gm each were immersed inside the tin, which mostly remained camouflaged beside the yellow cheese. The customs have initiated an investigation as it is the second incident in this week where culprits tried to bring illegal gold through food packets.
