KATTAKKADA: The Kattakkada Fast Track POCSO court sentenced a youth to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and sexually abusing a 17-year-old school student. Vilavoorkal native Akhil (27) was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 by Judge S Ramesh Kumar of the Kattakkada Fast-Track POCSO court. This is the first verdict after the Fast-Track POCSO court came up in Kattakada.

Akhil has been sentenced to ten years of rigorous imprisonment, two years of simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000. The fine amount should be handed over to the survivor. The accused will have to spend an additional 8 months in prison if he fails to pay the fine.

The incident took place in 2017. The accused, who was a KSRTC employee, befriended the girl, who used to travel regularly on the bus. He then took her to many places, sexually abused her and impregnated her. He also tortured her by locking her in the house without giving her food and clothes. The accused, who was an alcoholic, had also beaten up the girl in front of her mother.
