TORONTO: The Titan submersible, which disappeared in the Atlantic Ocean during a trip to see the wreckage of the Titanic, has been confirmed to have been destroyed by an explosion. The US Navy said the explosion occurred Sunday where the Titan lost communications. Reports said the cause of the explosion was due to high pressure.

Five major parts, including the Titan's rear armor and landing frame, were found two miles under the sea yesterday. They were discovered by an unmanned underwater vehicle (ROV) aboard the Horizon Arctic. The bodies of the passengers have not been found.

Titan's owners, Ocean gate Company CEO Stockton Rush, British businessman Hamish Harding, British-Pakistani billionaire Shehzada Dawood and his son Suleiman, and French explorer Paul Henri Nargiolet were on the Titan. Paul is the pilot of the Titan. The company also issued a statement yesterday that they are believed to be dead. Communication with the mother ship Polar Prince was lost within one to three quarter hours after being put into the sea.
