NEW DELHI: A new opposition alliance took shape in Patna under the presence of prominent leaders including Rahul Gandhi. The sudden opposition unity is no real camaraderie but the last found resort to oust BJP from power. The opposition with varied ideologies will fight the saffron party in the 2024 elections and will refrain from highlighting any leader or party as the face of the opposition.
The opposition party will conduct its next meeting in Shimla in July. The Patna meeting was hosted by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar. The candidate selection for different constituencies will be discussed during the next meeting of the opposition.
“ Keeping aside the political ideologies, the parties will join hands to remove BJP from power,” said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Mamata Banerjee vowed to replace the tyrannical government of the BJP through opposition unity. The meeting was hosted by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar (JDU) and his deputy Tejashwi Yadav (RJD) at the chief minister's 1, Aney Marg residence. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, party leader Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab's Bhagwant Mann, Tamil Nadu's M K Stalin, Jharkhand's Hemant Soren, Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav, Maharashtra's former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, and NCP president Sharad Pawar are among the leaders attended the first high-level Opposition meeting.
Interestingly, AAP distanced away from the meeting saying it is difficult to be part of an alliance that has Congress in it.AAP accused the congress of condescending attitude saying the party is not a team player.
