NEW DELHI: In an all-party meeting called by the Union Home Minister, the opposition parties demanded the removal of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who failed to stop the riots in Manipur. The opposition also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not intervening to solve the problem. Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured that immediate action will be taken to ensure peace in Manipur. Amit Shah said that the Prime Minister is informed about the situation in the state every day. It is indicated that any action will be taken only after Modi returns from his foreign tour.

The opposition also demanded that an all-party delegation be sent to Manipur. The Home Minister assured that the Centre will consider the proposals of the political parties. He also said that the central government will take appropriate action.

"Modi government is committed to solve the Manipur problem by taking everyone together. The priority of the Modi government is that no more lives should be lost due to violence in the state," the minister added.

The opposition parties all pointed out that the Chief Minister of Manipur is not trustworthy.

"There will be peace only if he is removed from the post of CM. The Chief Minister himself twice publicly admitted that he had failed to manage the crisis. He apologized to the people. He unilaterally withdrew the tripartite agreement with some separatist groups. Although the move was later rejected by the Union Home Ministry, things went out of control by then. Hence, CM Biren Singh should be removed from the post of Chief Minister," the Congress said.
