THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress leadership completely rejected the willingness to resign of K Sudhakaran, who was arrested in the fake antiquities scam case, and gave him protection. Even though Sudhakaran stated that he would stand down from the post of KPCC president, it is decided to go for open war by giving him a martyr's status.
With the Lok Sabha elections ahead, UDF will secure the support of all its allies. After the AI camera controversy, the opposition has started its moves to take legal action against the government on the K-FON issue.
CPM, which feels that circumstances like Sudhakaran's defense of fraudster Monson Mavungal and his subsequent arrest by the Crime Branch have cast doubt on him, is moving to hit back at Congress. Congress recognizes the political crisis created by the arrest of the KPCC chief. Although a case can be dismissed as a political charge when it is just a case, the political dimension changes when an arrest is made. However, if Sudhakaran resigns from the post of President on the grounds of ethics, it will be a guilty surrender. The Congress does not want things to reach where the CPM wants them to. Congress believes that if Sudhakaran resigns at this stage, it will pave the way for the general public to feel that he is at fault. That is why the party leadership rejected the possibility of resignation after Sudhakaran's reaction.
Congress leaders argue that the CPM has no moral right to ask Sudhakaran to step down as party president citing the Lavlin case. Congress argued that Pinarayi Vijayan did not resign from the post of CPM state secretary because he was holding a party position and not a position in the government. In the coming days, Congress is moving to strongly raise all the cases that are believed to have cast a shadow of doubt on the government in the social environment, including Shivashankar's imprisonment, the Life Mission bribery case and the gold smuggling case.
An attempt is also being made to bring the secular minds together in the Lok Sabha elections by portraying that the KPCC president was arrested on the same day as the meeting of the opposition parties in Patna to appease the central BJP administration.
CPM claims that the case against K Sudhakaran is not politically motivated. CPM centers say that it was Sudhakaran's supporters who made the allegations, and those who gave the money gave statements to the police. The question is why would Sudhakaran be ready to justify Monson right after he was sentenced to life in the POCSO case if he has nothing to do with the criminal
It is reported that Sudhakaran had indicated to those close to him that he would resign as KPCC president as he was arrested in the fraud case even though he was innocent. However, none of the leaders agreed to this.
